Despite being in bad form during the England series in 1971, Mankad never lost his sense of humour. Over the course of the tour he had difficulties coming to terms with the conditions and the England bowlers with John Snow being his main nemesis. But each time Mankad would do one thing without fail: he would walk up to Snow and greet him “Good morning, sir. I’m Ashok Mankad. I hope I’ll get runs against you,” and he would get out early. He knew how to enjoy the game.He was very young to pass away so soon. He was a damn good player and a prolific scorer. He could have played more Tests for India if he had not been asked to change his role in the batting order so frequently. Never did he shirk responsibility – he was a typical Mumbai guy, always thinking, and playing for the team. He was very knowledgeable about the game, be it spotting talent, or discussing technique. He was a keen student and also liked to work on the psychology aspect of cricket. He knew exactly where and when to tap the player or needle the opponent’s weak point. It’s a personal loss, in a way, because he was my room-mate on several tours. The one thing that always impressed me about him was his attention to detail: he was precise even with the minor stuff. His cricket gear would always be spic and span, everything would be where it should be from his attire to his pads and gloves. He worshiped his kit. All this proved he was a committed cricketer. He was an illustrious son of an illustrious father. He had a wonderful cricket brain that, sadly, the administrators never utilised properly which was a great loss to Indian cricket. He was one of the best batsmen of his era and had a very good cricket brain. A light-hearted man, he would always keep the dressing-room atmosphere lively with his banter and jokes. He was a very good team man. When I scored my maiden century in the Irani Trophy he was at the non-striker’s end. We were chasing a 200-plus target and I made the bulk of the runs. Mankad had made only a few but he stood there keeping the partnership intact. A man of integrity, he did yeoman’s service to Mumbai cricket, as a player, and as a captain.

At what point are Australia in their drop from untouchables to mortals, and when will the performances of the world champions level out?Was the destruction caused by Fidel Edwards and Daren Powell in the second innings at Sabina Park something that can scare opposition teams regularly? Is Stuart MacGill the two-year answer to the tourists’ spin bowling problems? Will Twenty20’s Dwayne Bravo ever feel comfortable defending for more than a couple of overs? And what difference will the return of key players make?Immediate answers are impossible, but the range of questions confirms the new levels of interest in the series. The relatively tight opening contest has given life to an affair that was expected to be one-sided. وذكرت صحيفة “ديلي ميل” البريطانية، أن مانشستر يونايتد استفسر من إنتر ميلان عن إمكانية التعاقد مع مدافع الفريق، أليساندرو باستوني.

وأوضح التقرير أن وصيف الدوري الإيطالي، أخبر مانشستر يونايتد، وتوتنهام، أن النادي لن يترك باستوني بأقل من 50 مليون جنيه إسترليني.

وقالت الصحيفة إن مانشستر يونايتد وتوتنهام سيواجهان منافسة من قبل مانشستر سيتي، والذي يضغط على باستوني من أجل التعاقد معه.

وقال سيد معوض في تصريحات لبرنامج “بوكس تو بوكس” عبر قناة “etc”: “لم أفهم هذه التصريحات؛ لذلك لن أعلق عليها”.

وتابع: “تقليص عدد اللاعبين الأجانب لابد أن يصب في مصلحة كرة القدم المصرية من خلال وضع نظام وسياسة واضحة، ويتم حصد نتائجها بعد فترة معلومة”.

وأضاف: “غياب الجماهير عن مساندة منتخب مصر أمام غينيا منطقي بعد النتائج السلبية التي يقدمها الفريق مؤخرًا، وشاهدنا الالتفاف حول الفراعنة في تصفيات كأس العالم، لكن بعد الإقصاء أصبحت الأمور صعبة”.

وواصل: “لا أعتقد أن محمد صلاح شارك أمام غينيا وهو مصاب، قد تكون الآلام خفيفة”.

وكان إيهاب جلال قد صرح عقب مباراة مصر وغينيا والتي فاز بها منتخبنا الوطني بهدف دون رد، بأن محمد صلاح تحامل على نفسه وشارك رغم رفض ناديه ليفربول بسبب معاناته من الإصابة.

وأشار معوض: “لابد من اختيار مدرب الفريق للطريقة التي تناسب إمكانيات لاعبيه، واختيار التكتيك الذي يجعله يفوز به”.

وأردف: “جميع اللاعبين المنضمين لمنتخب مصر مميزين وقادرين على خوض مباراة إثيوبيا وتقديم أفضل أداء”.

واختتم: “الوقت دائمًا ما يكون ضيق جدًا مع المنتخبات، لن يستطيع المدرب تغيير طريقة لعب المنتخب خلال أول تدريبين يخوضهما بالفريق، لذلك أعذر إيهاب جلال وأدعمه من أجل الحصول على فرصته كاملة لوضع بصماته”.

قرر مجلس إدارة اتحاد الكرة برئاسة جمال علام، إقامة حفل تكريم للنجم محمد صلاح لاعب ليفربول وقائد منتخب مصر، قبل انطلاق مباراة الفراعنة وغينيا المقرر إقامتها مساء اليوم الأحد.

ويواجه منتخب مصر منافسه غينيا في المباراة المقرر لها التاسعة مساء اليوم باستاد القاهرة في الجولة الأولى بالتصفيات المؤهلة للكان.

Marcus Bent has exclusively told The Transfer Tavern that he expects Cenk Tosun to leave Everton this summer.

It’s been four years since the Turkish international made the switch to Goodison Park from Besiktas, but injuries and goalscoring troubles have restricted him to just 58 appearances.

Tosun has missed more than 60 games, with an ACL injury the reason for more than half of those, although that was during a disappointing loan spell with Crystal Palace two years back.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Tosun, who hasn’t played a single minute in pre-season, is not part of Rafa Benitez’s plans, which would explain why Andros Townsend has taken his squad number.

Tosun spent last season back on loan in Turkey with Besiktas, but more injured problems saw him make just a handful of appearances.

Everton want to add another striker to their ranks, which would see the 30-year-old slip further down the pecking order at Goodison Park.

And Bent told The Transfer Tavern that his time on Merseyside are limited:

“I think with Rafa coming in, he’s going to look at what’s going on. But again, with the budget and new stadium, I think he’s probably going to move on.

“Where he goes, I don’t know, but I think he’s probably one they’re going to move on.”

O jogo não tem data para acontecer.

– Resolvemos, por conta própria, repetir os exames para saber se havia veracidade nesses resultados. Foi uma corrida contra o tempo. Ficou pronto faltando dez minutos para as 16h. Desses dez exames positivos, nove foram de fato positivos e um negativo – disse ele.

Mais cedo, o mesmo Marcelo Almeida havia declarado que três dos novos testes já haviam dado negativo, mas tratava-se de uma informação extra-oficial naquele momento.

Questionado sobre a postura do São Paulo, que se manifestou meia hora depois da confirmação da suspensão da partida concordando com a decisão, o dirigente disse que foi “bastante fria”.

– O São Paulo agiu de forma bastante fria. Veio aqui com o propósito de ir para o jogo, caso ele existisse. Como eu sabia que a gente tinha dado entrada com o pedido de liminar no STJD e estávamos a poucos minutos de ter essa liminar referendada, procurei o Raí, que está aqui em Goiânia, e posicionei: “olha, vocês estão entrando em campo, mas pode acontecer de ter uma liminar a nosso favor”. Ele falou: “vamos esperar o comunicado oficial”. Uma coisa fria, ninguém me ligou, me procurou, eu que fui atrás e avisei.

O elenco do Goiás foi submetido a uma primeira bateria de testes na quinta-feira, mas foi preciso colher novas amostras na sexta-feira devido a uma falha informada pelo laboratório responsável pelos exames. No Campeonato Brasileiro, os testes de Covid-19 são oferecidos pela CBF em parceria com o Albert Einstein, que elegeu um laboratório parceiro em Goiânia. Houve problema parecido com o Vila Nova neste fim de semana.

O Goiás esperava os resultados desses novos testes na tarde de sábado, mas diz que eles foram enviados apenas na manhã deste domingo. Os dez infectados estavam concentrados com o restante do elenco e oito seriam titulares. O clube alega que não conseguiria garantir que os atletas que testaram negativo não haviam sido contaminados neste meio tempo, além da necessidade de correr para convocar jovens da base e preencher o banco.

– Não quero apontar o dedo para ninguém, mas lógico que houve uma falha grotesca. Hoje comecei a lembrar do que aconteceu com o Bragantino, que teve problema muito parecido no Campeonato Paulista (no caso, o Albert Einstein informou resultados equivocados de testes ao clube às vésperas do jogo contra o Corinthians). O dia de hoje foi de desconcentração, estressante para mim, para os jogadores e para todo mundo. Tinha jogador almoçando no interior comemorando o Dia dos Pais e que saiu de lá correndo para participar do jogo – disse Marcelo Almeida.

O Goiás enfrenta o Athletico-PR na quarta-feira, em Curitiba, e o presidente diz que o elenco será testado novamente na noite deste domingo.

– A gente não embarca para Curitiba se os resultados não estiverem na nossa mão antes de terça-feira.
