Dele 2.0: Spurs must offload "incredible" Levy signing alongside Bissouma

Dele Alli was seen as a youngster with huge potential at Tottenham Hotspur, but despite his early success at the club, he struggled to maintain his top-level performances.

The Englishman joined the Lilywhites in a £5m deal from MK Dons back in the summer of 2015, taking the Premier League by storm in his first couple of seasons.

He scored 37 times in his first three years in North London, registering a further 26 assists – helping him win the PFA Young Player of the Year award two years in a row.

However, it would all come crashing down for the midfielder, subsequently dropping down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho, with off-field issues rearing their head and leading to his demise.

Fast-forward to 2025, manager Thomas Frank has another talented player in the same situation, which could lead to his own exit from the club in the near future.

The latest on Yves Bissouma’s Tottenham future

Despite being a regular in Ange Postecoglou’s plans, making 44 appearances in all competitions, midfielder Yves Bissouma looks set to be sold by Spurs in the coming weeks.

The Malian international, who cost £35m from Brighton in the summer of 2022, has ultimately failed to impress new boss, Frank, but mainly due to his off-the-field issues rather than on-field performances.

He was left out of the Super Cup clash with PSG due to disciplinary reasons and has failed to be a part of any squad since then, not even making the bench for the Lilywhites.

It’s not the first time the 29-year-old has been involved in off-the-field antics, being spotted inhaling nitrous oxide – leading to a suspension from the hierarchy.

However, he looks set to be sold to Turkey in the coming days, with Fenerbahce interested in his signature, but he should also be joined by another player out of the exit door.

The Spurs player who should be axed alongside Bissouma

Whilst this summer was mainly about incomings at Spurs, decisions have been made to offload players to create wriggle room for Frank to work with after taking the reins.

The Dane splashed upwards of £100m on the signatures of Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus – adding needed quality into the club’s forward line for 2025/26 and beyond.

Such moves have added to the likes of Brennan Johnson and Richarlison, with the pair already opening their account for the new campaign under Frank.

However, despite joining on a permanent basis this summer, attacker Mathys Tel could find himself on the periphery after the latest development in North London.

The Frenchman joined the Lilywhites in a £30m deal from Bayern Munich, re-joining the club after spending the second half of the previous campaign on loan with Spurs.

At just 20, he has bags of time to fulfill his potential, but it’s unclear whether he will be able to achieve his goal under Frank after the new emerging from the club this week.

Tel, who’s been labelled “incredible” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, was left out of the Lilywhites’ Champions League squad for the 2025/26 campaign – casting doubt over his long-term future.

Such a situation is similar to that of Dele, subsequently being alienated from the first-team squad, which could see the player move closer to the exit door.

However, such a scenario could eventually see the club lose Tel for a minimal fee, just like they did with Dele a couple of years ago – needing to cash in on his services if he currently isn’t in Frank’s plans.

The decision to leave the youngster out may prove to be an unpopular one with the fanbase, especially after the hierarchy forked out £30m for his signature a matter of months ago.

The player himself would also undoubtedly be angry with the latest development, with the board needing to fund a move away from the club for Tel alongside Bissouma to allow them to kick on their development elsewhere.

Maresca's answer to Eze: Chelsea now "expected" to sign £25m "superstar"

The mood around Chelsea is undeniably electric at the moment.

Enzo Maresca’s side more than made up for their opening-day stumble at home with an emphatic win away to West Ham United on Friday, and look ready for what should be a massive season in the Premier League and beyond.

The club have more than backed the manager over the last few months, and with the window open for another week, looks set to make at least a couple more additions to his squad.

In fact, if reports are to be believed, Chelsea may be closing in on an international ace who’d be their own version of Eberechi Eze.

Chelsea target their own Eberechi Eze

They haven’t been the biggest spenders in the league this summer, but Chelsea have undoubtedly made the most out of the window so far.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

In attack, the Conference League champions have added the likes of Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, while the defence has been reinforced by the tremendously exciting Jorrel Hato.

Yet, even with all the business the West Londoners have done over the last few months, they now look set to complete another signing, someone who could be their own Eze.

At least that is according to a recent report from transfers expert Fabrizio Romano, who has reaffirmed Chelsea’s interest in Alejandro Garnacho.

More than that, the Italian journalist has revealed that the deal is now “expected” to happen before the window slams shut.

Romano does not mention how much the Manchester United ace might cost, but according to stories from earlier this month, the Blues could try to secure his services for around £25m.

Even if the final fee ends up being higher, Garnacho is worth signing for Chelsea, especially as he could be their own Eze.

Why Garnacho could be Chelsea's Eze

So the first thing to clear up is that no, we are not claiming Garnacho is currently on the same level as Eze.

Manchester United's AlejandroGarnachoduring training

That would be patently untrue and quite unfair to the United ace, as he’s still just 21 years old.

However, there are several similarities between the two, including their transfers.

For example, if the Argentine international does end up joining Maresca’s blue revolution this summer, then he’d be following the Englishman in joining not just a ‘big six’ side, but one based in London that will be looking to challenge for the Premier League this season.

Away from the deal, another key characteristic the Madrid-born ace shares with the former Crystal Palace star is his ability to play in attacking midfield or out on the left wing.

More than that, he’s also as much of a goal threat as he is a creator.

For example, the “superstar” in the making, as dubbed by journalist Liam Canning, was able to score 11 goals and provide ten assists in 58 appearances, totalling 3568 minutes.

That means he was able to average a goal involvement every 2.76 games, or 169.90 minutes, which is made all the more impressive considering he was playing in a historically terrible United side.

Finally, just as Eze has the ability to pull off the magnificent, so can Garnacho, with his Puskas winning goal against Everton a couple of years ago, the perfect example of this.

Ultimately, it may take some time for the United ace to reach the levels of the new Arsenal star, but the similarities between them are undeniable.

Therefore, Chelsea should do what they can to secure his services as soon as possible.

Better signing than Krstovic: Leeds considering bid for £21m striker

Leeds United are in the market to add another centre-forward to Daniel Farke’s attacking arsenal before the summer transfer window slams shut at the start of September.

The Whites have already swooped to bring Lukas Nmecha in on a free transfer from Wolfsburg to provide depth in that area of the pitch, but they are looking to swoop for another one.

Farke knows that he needs to bolster his options across the pitch after his side won the Championship title to secure promotion to the Premier League, and the German boss is reportedly looking at a number of high-quality number nine targets.

One player who does not look likely to end up at Elland Road this summer, though, is Fulham centre-forward Rodrigo Muniz, who is not for sale.

This means that the Whites will have to look at alternative targets to the Cottagers striker, and one player who has been mentioned is Lecce marksman Nikola Krstovic.

What Nikola Krstovic could bring to Leeds

It was recently reported that Leeds are ‘pushing’ to secure a deal for the £21m-rated Montenegro international from the Serie A side, but it remains to be seen whether or not they can get a move over the line in the coming weeks.

If the Championship champions can wrap up a transfer for the 25-year-old centre-forward, though, he could bring a lot of attractive qualities to Elland Road.

Krstovic scored 11 goals in the Serie A for Lecce last season, and provided his teammates with five assists, which shows that he can provide a threat in the final third in a major European league.

The £21m-rated star also won 4.9 duels, at a success rate of 41%, per game in the Serie A, proving that he is a physical striker who can compete in battles with opposition centre-backs.

However, as you can see in the table above, there would be a concern over how sustainable his goalscoring is because of his finishing quality in the last two seasons in the Italian top-flight.

He has underperformed his xG in both seasons in the Serie A, by between five and six goals, and this suggests that he may not be a reliable finisher for Leeds.

Therefore, despite the other qualities he could offer, it might be better for the Whites to look elsewhere for a new striker, and they are reportedly interested in one who would be even better than Krstovic.

Leeds considering move for Championship star

According to Football Insider, Leeds United are currently considering whether or not to bid for Norwich City centre-forward Josh Sargent this summer.

The report claims that the USA international is ‘firmly’ on the club’s radar, as they eye up multiple number nine targets, and that Farke is the driving force behind their interest in the striker.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Sargent was signed by Farke in the summer of 2021 when the German head coach brought him to Carrow Road from Werder Bremen, but the Canaries sacked the manager after just a couple of months of working with the forward.

Former scout Mick Brown has told Football Insider that the boss is “driving the interest” for the Championship marksman, who made the PFA Team of the Year ahead of Joel Piroe.

JoshSargentof the U.S. reacts

Brown added: “They’re not the only ones interested, so if they want him they might have to move quickly. Sometimes that interest from other clubs can force people into making a move even if they weren’t quite certain about it before, so we’ll see.”

This means that Leeds may have to decide whether they want to bid for the £21m-rated striker sooner rather than later, to avoid missing out on him.

Why Leeds should sign Josh Sargent

The Whites should swoop to sign the American centre-forward this summer because he could arrive as an even better signing than Krstovic, despite the fact that he played at a lower level last season.

Whilst the Montenegro international was strutting his stuff in the Serie A, Sargent was grinding it out in the Championship with Norwich and caught the eye with his impressive performances.

Norwich City'sJoshSargentcelebrates scoring their first goal

Of course, some fans may only remember the forward’s output in his Premier League season with the Canaries, after he scored just two goals in 26 games in the 2021/22 campaign.

But that was his first season in English football, as a young striker, and he often played out wide to accommodate Teemu Pukki, in a team that was relegated to the Championship.

As you can see in the table above, Sargent has thrived since those initial struggles in that Premier League season, outperforming his xG in all three of his second tier campaigns.

These statistics suggest that the 25-year-old star, who was hailed as “phenomenal” by former teammate Ashley Barnes, has the potential to be even better in front of goal than Krstovic, as he has a history of being a clinical finisher, whilst the Lecce ace has underperformed in the last two seasons.

Sargent could also be a better signing than the Serie A marksman because of his pre-existing relationship with Farke and his experience in English football, which could help him to hit the ground running faster than Krstovic.

Leeds may need a fast start to the season to gain enough positive momentum to push them away from an early relegation battle, which is one of the reasons why the Norwich star could be a very shrewd signing for the club and why they should go from considering a bid for him to actually making one.

Dream for Ekitike: Chelsea showing interest in "pocket rocket"

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is desperate to bolster his attacking options this summer, and Hugo Ekitike is a major target.

The Blues face competition from Manchester United, however, as the Red Devils have entered the race for the young Frenchman.

Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike

This could put Maresca on high alert, and he will do everything he can to try to lure the Eintracht Frankfurt striker to Stamford Bridge.

He isn’t the only transfer target to emerge from the Bundesliga, as news has emerged about their potential interest in a current RB Leipzig starlet.

Chelsea could target Bundesliga sensation

If a move for Ekitike does go through, Maresca will be keen on linking up with players who will be able to provide him with plenty of chances in the final third.

Of course, Cole Palmer will be ideal for him, but how about having a talent like Xavi Simons available?

Writer Bobby Vincent stated during a Q and A for football.london could perhaps be a target.

“As for Xavi Simons, I’ve heard his name mentioned a couple of times this summer as a potential option but nothing absolutely concrete yet,” said Vincent.

“He is someone who has cropped up in the past as well, so there is definite interest there.”

The Dutchman is still only 22 years of age and would make an ideal long-term option for Maresca, especially as he could work wonders with Ekitike.

Why Chelsea must sign Xavi Simons

Last season in the Premier League, Palmer created 24 big chances. Next on the list were Enzo Fernández with 13 and Pedro Neto with 11. These were the only players with over ten big chances created.

By signing Simons, Maresca would be getting a player who will be able to generate plenty of opportunities for Ekitike, who scored 22 goals in all competitions for Frankfurt this season.

Xavi Simons celebrates

Indeed, across 25 domestic matches last season, the youngster created 12 big chances, while also averaging two key passes per game and recording seven assists for Leipzig, which speaks to the kind of quality that he could provide the French striker with in front of goal.

It is no wonder he has been hailed as a “fantastic talent” in the past by talent scout Jacek Kulig. Now, Simons is finally delivering on his massive potential.

While Leipzig may have underwhelmed in the Champions League last season, Simons, who has been hailed as a “pocket rocket” by analyst Raj Chohan, shone from an individual perspective.

Indeed, when compared to his positional peers in the tournament, the 22-year-old ranked in the top 2% for shot-creating actions (5.91) and total shots per 90 (2.69) while also ranking in the top 9% for successful take-ons (1.88) and in the top 12% for touches in the opposition penalty area (3.49) per 90.

This set of statistics proves that Simons is among one of the finest attacking midfielders on the continent when it comes to creating chances, which is why he would be a dream signing alongside Ekitike as they could link up in the final third with the Dutchman creating chances for the striker to tuck away.

It could be a dream duo for the club next season, and if the club go far in the Club World Cup, there will be money to spend.

Alongside Ait-Nouri: Man City want "world-class" £67m full-back on the other side

Manchester City now want to sign a “world-class” £67m full-back, and he could join alongside Rayan Ait-Nouri this summer, according to a report.

City making progress in Ait-Nouri pursuit

Man City have set their sights on signing a new left-back this summer, with Pep Guardiola perhaps not overly convinced by Josko Gvardiol and Nico O’Reilly, and there has been a recent update in their pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ait-Nouri.

Indeed, reliable reporter David Ornstein has now revealed that City “expect” to complete a deal for the Algerian this summer, although there is still work to be done before they are able to strike an agreement with their Premier League rivals.

"World-class" star now pushing to join Man City quickly; £59m+ offer needed

There has been a development in Man City’s pursuit of a key target…

ByDominic Lund Jun 3, 2025

Ait-Nouri’s arrival would leave Guardiola fairly well-stocked at left-back, given that Gvardiol and O’Reilly featured in that area regularly throughout the 2024-25 campaign, but a new report has suggested the manager could be keen to bring in another full-back who can play on both flanks.

According to GiveMeSport, Man City now want to sign Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso, with the Italian being shortlisted by Guardiola, who has also personally requested the defender in the past.

Manchester City managerPepGuardiolabefore the match

It could be difficult to agree a deal for Cambiaso, with his current employers making it tricky to enter talks, but the full-back, who was valued at £67m back in the January transfer window, remains of interest to the Blues.

Guardiola’s side are confident about sealing the arrival of Ait-Nouri, but the Juventus star could join regardless of whether they complete a deal for the Wolves man, given he can play in a back four or five on both sides of the defence.

Cambiaso putting in "world-class" performances for Juventus

The 25-year-old is particularly impressive in an attacking sense, as highlighted by his dribbling ability, which is important for City, considering they are likely to be the main aggressors in the majority of the Premier League games they play next season.

Journalist Zach Lowy has also been left particularly enamoured by the Italy international’s ability to create chances for his teammates in the past, singling him out for praise last April.

That said, with Gvardiol and O’Reilly already on the books, and the move for Ait-Nouri seemingly advancing well, there are doubts over whether the full-back would be a necessary signing for Man City.

£67m is a huge asking price for any player, and it may be wise to invest the money into other areas of the squad, perhaps between the sticks, having been keen on signing an Ederson replacement for quite some time, and City have a number of options in mind.

Chelsea "seriously" weigh up "big" bid to sign £75m England international

Chelsea are looking to strengthen multiple key areas in Enzo Maresca’s squad, before they tackle their first campaign back in the Champions League next season, and they’ve made a fantastic start with their deal for Liam Delap.

Chelsea's transfer plans after signing Liam Delap

The striker has now fully sealed his switch to Stamford Bridge after completing a medical (Fabrizio Romano), with Chelsea activating his £30 million release clause and securing their first signing of the summer.

Delap may not be their only striker signing of the summer, either, with Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reporting late last week that Chelsea remain in serious pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike.

As well as Ekitike, Chelsea are actively discussing the signing of a new attacking midfielder or winger, with Kenan Yildiz (Juventus), Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), Jeremy Doku (Man City), Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa), Max Tillman (PSV), Jamie Gittens (Borussia Dortmund), Alejandro Garnacho (Man United) and Athletic Bilbao starlet Nico Williams all considered (Simon Phillips).

BlueCo are said to be working hard to bolster some key areas before the Club World Cup begins in under a fortnight, with Chelsea taking this summer’s tournament seriously given the riches on offer.

Stamford Bridge – Chelsea

Chelsea could secure £97 million worth of prize money if they win the whole thing, and reliable journalist Simon Phillips writes that they’re very keen to sign a new centre-back before the CWC kicks off.

Chelsea held productive talks over a move for Dean Huijsen, but eventually missed out on a deal for the Spain international when Real Madrid came knocking.

Now, they’ve turned to alternative targets, and one of them is Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite.

Chelsea ponder "big-money" bid for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite

The England international, who made his Three Lions debut last year, should arguably have more senior caps for the national team considering his excellent and assured displays on Merseyside, but his talent isn’t lost on Chelsea.

The 22-year-old is high on their defensive transfer shortlist of targets, even if Toffees boss David Moyes is reportedly “pleading” with him to stay.

TEAMtalk have an update on the situation, and they write that Chelsea are “seriously” considering a “big-money” bid for Branthwaite – who could cost up to £75 million.

The Blues are thought to be more “advanced” in their interest than London rivals Tottenham, but it’ll take a marquee fee to prise the highly-rated centre-half down south.

Everton are said to be in a strong position in regard to PSR, and have an option to extend Branthwaite’s contract by a further year, meaning Chelsea will need to stump up a very large fee to even get his club to the negotiating table.

While Branthwaite is expected to be an expensive potential buy, he is one of England’s most exciting young defenders, with Jamie Carragher already calling him a “special” player to watch out for.

Man Utd now well-placed to sign "brilliant" £40m Andre Onana replacement

Manchester United are set for a summer overhaul and plenty of movement is expected in both directions over the next few months, especially in the goalkeeping department.

Man Utd set to make Cunha first summer signing

The Premier League has proven to be an unhappy hunting ground for Ruben Amorim, and it is now abundantly clear that changes will be on the way to restructure his side ahead of next season.

Any notion of a backdoor route to Champions League football via claiming the Europa League was put to bed by Tottenham Hotspur last Wednesday, who prevailed 1-0 in Bilbao courtesy of a scrappy first-half effort from Brennan Johnson.

Andre Onana, Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire could all be held culpable for the goal, albeit lapses in concentration in key moments have been a central feature in the Red Devils’ failure to string together consistent results.

Further up the field, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund’s struggles in the Europa League final indicate that there will be plenty of work done to improve the spine of Amorim’s side.

Matheus Cunha is a prime target to freshen up the forward line and the Brazilian forward is set to make the move to Old Trafford from Wolves in a transfer that is expected to be worth £62.5m. The Red Devils look primed to trigger Cunha’s release clause as he looks likely to become the first summer signing ahead of Amorim’s first full season in charge.

Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho’s decision to demand a move to Real Madrid has let the cat among the pigeons regarding potential reinforcements.

Robust in his assessment of what may come this summer, Amorim believes his side will be able to avoid making the same mistakes once the new campaign commences.

He said: “We are going to avoid a lot of mistakes next season. Now is the time we can use all of that suffering to change things in the summer.”

Casting an eye to the window, Amorim could now be set to deliver on his promise by bringing in a high-profile figure between the sticks.

Man Utd well-placed to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez

According to Football Insider, Manchester United are well-placed to sign Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa if they can sell Onana during the summer window.

Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Saudi Pro League clubs are also in the mix to sign the Argentinian stopper, who could be available for between £35 million to £40 million after switching agencies.

Labelled “brilliant” by Alan Shearer, Martinez has kept 15 clean sheets in 52 appearances across all competitions this campaign, helping the Villans to put on a strong showing across several fronts.

Now, Manchester United have a task on their hands in convincing the former Arsenal man that a move to Old Trafford is the best course of action at this stage of his career. Onana leaving the club will also be crucial to making that notion a reality. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if that possibility will evolve into a done deal.

Approach made: Southampton now in advanced talks to hire new 4-3-3 manager

Looking ahead to their first attempt to get back into the Premier League next season, Southampton are now reportedly in advanced talks to hire an impressive 32-year-old manager.

Southampton's search for a new manager

The Southampton job isn’t exactly one that every manager will be jumping towards this summer after the Saints suffered relegation from the Premier League. Having opened their season with Russell Martin in the dugout, the Saints were ready to take on the Premier League their way and opt out of simply sitting in a deep defensive block.

The Saints need to make a new appointment.

BySean Markus Clifford Apr 27, 2025

As attractive as that approach looked, however, it did not result in much-needed points and those at St Mary’s soon switched their mindsets towards survival, sacking Martin in the process.

Their next decision was always going to be crucial, even if some were already convinced that relegation was looming. Following Martin’s tenure, it wouldn’t have been absurd to suggest that a pragmatic, experienced Premier League manager should have been the way forward, but Southampton took an alternative approach once again – this time hiring Ivan Juric in December.

Southampton manager IvanJuricreacts

Having enjoyed experience at AS Roma, Torino, Genoa and others in Italy, Juric stepped into the Premier League for the first time before enduring a nightmare spell. With one game remaining, the manager has already been sacked and Southampton have their place in history as the second-worst Premier League side in history, with one more point than the historic 2008 Derby County team.

Back at square one ahead of their return to the Championship, names such as Danny Rohl and even Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard have reportedly been among the candidates in the running for the job, but Southampton’s search has continued.

Whilst it could be neither of those young managers, the Saints have since reportedly turned towards an impressive 32-year-old who now looks the likeliest to commence a new era at St Mary’s.

Southampton in advanced talks to hire Will Still

According to The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, Southampton have now approached Will Still and are in advanced talks to hire the 32-year-old manager, who just left Ligue 1 side RC Lens to be closer to his family.

Will Still at RC Lens.

The manager told reporters after his side defeated AS Monaco on the final day of the Ligue 1 season: “I will not be the coach of Lens next season. Today was my last match of the season at Bollaert. For multiple reasons, the main reason behind my decision is that I need to go back home. It is a logical choice for me to be closer to my wife, for her well-being.”

Back in England, Southampton are now reportedly confident that they will secure Still ahead of next season. The interest of the Saints should come as little surprise, either, given just how successful Still, who plays an attacking 4-3-3 system, has been in France at both Reims and Lens.

For Southampton, should they be successful in their pursuit of Still, they’ll be hiring another young coach to follow on from Martin’s previous spell in charge.

Leeds: 49ers ready to pay £1.7m clause to sign 26 y/o forward for Farke

Leeds United are thought to be ready to trigger a former Premier League forward’s release clause this summer, as the 49ers Enterprises and Daniel Farke prepare for a return to the top flight.

Leeds celebrate Championship title with huge parade

It has been a memorable few weeks for the Whites, who have enjoyed their last three Mondays by officially winning promotion, partying in front of fans at Elland Road and most recently parading the Championship title around the city.

Manor Solomon’s late injury time winner down in the south west against Plymouth Argyle in the final game of the season ensured Leeds would finish top ahead of Burnley. Both sides finished on 100 points, and Leeds players have since partied hard with an open-top bus parade which saw an estimated 150,000 supporters come out to celebrate.

Talking during the bus parade, Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe said: “I don’t think anyone realised, this wasn’t easy This was really hard to do. Two years of getting to this point, but all that hard work and all that difficulty, makes right now that much more rewarding and makes today so special. I hope I never forget this moment. I want to live in this moment as much as I can.

“This is a journey, this is not the end. We have to keep going, this is what Leeds does. We are going to have some difficulties, but we are going to get where we want to go and we are going to be one of the best clubs in all of Europe.”

Leeds: 49ers feel "fantastic" £30m forward is perfect and want to sign him

The Whites have joined the race for a forward, who has attracted the attention of a number of Premier League clubs.

ByDominic Lund May 5, 2025

Marathe has also confirmed Farke will be continuing as Leeds boss in the Premier League after claims he could be sacked, and the pair appear to have their eyes on a new 26-year-old forward.

Leeds ready to pay release clause to sign Moussa Djenepo

According to reports relayed by Sport Witness, Leeds are ready to trigger Moussa Djenepo’s €2m (£1.7m) release clause this summer.

Currently on loan at Antalyaspor from Standard Liege, Djenepo doesn’t want to make a move to Turkey permanent, which may open the door for the Whites.

An approach has reportedly been made by Leeds for Djenepo, who made more than 70 Premier League appearances for Southampton between 2019-2023.

A Mali international, Djenepo is primarily a left-winger but can also turn out on the right as well as in an attack midfield role. During his time at Southampton, former teammate Nathan Redmond said: “He is a super-talented boy who is so open-minded and eager to learn every single day. He gets on well with everybody and has fitted in so well.”

He’s scored just two goals in 26 for Antalyaspor, but at £1.7m, a move to Leeds could be one to keep an eye on.

£30m Johnson upgrade: Spurs lead race to sign "future Ballon d'Or winner"

While there remains a slither of hope that this season ends in Europa League triumph for Tottenham Hotspur, there is no escaping from the fact that, at least domestically, it’s been diabolical.

Ange Postecologu’s side have lost 19 games in the Premier League, and it feels like a certainty that they’ll finish the season with 20 to their name.

However, for all the doom and gloom – of which there is plenty – there remains a reason to be hopeful about the club’s future: their youngsters.

The likes of Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Mikey Moore look like superstars in the making, and if recent reports are to be believed, the club are looking to add another name to that list, someone who’d be a massive upgrade on Brennan Johnson, and has been tipped for Ballon d’Or glory.

Tottenham's transfer targets

Before getting to the player in question, it’s worth looking at some of the other youngsters who’ve been linked with Spurs in recent weeks, such as Dean Huijsen.

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

The Spanish international reportedly has a release clause worth £50m in his current Bournemouth deal, and while that is a lot to spend on a youngster, it could well be worth it, as he’s already made 32 appearances for the Cherries this term.

Another youngster from the South Coast who has been heavily linked with the Lilywhites this year is Tyler Dibling.

The Southampton star has racked up a reasonable tally of four goals and three assists in 35 games so far this season and will be available for reportedly £35m.

Finally, the most exciting player, and the one who’d be a significant upgrade on Johnson, is Rayan Cherki.

According to a recent report from Caught Offside, Spurs and Manchester United are now leading the race to sign the highly-rated Lyon youngster.

The report claims that the 21-year-old could be available for around €35m, which comes out to £30m.

It might be a complicated transfer to get over the line, but given Cherki’s immense ability and potential, it’s worth fighting tooth and nail for, especially as he’d be a big upgrade on Johnson.

How Cherki compares to Johnson

So, as Cherki’s primary position is off the right, his main competition for game time at Spurs would be Johnson, but who comes out on top when we compare them?

Well, when it comes down to their raw output, it’s the Frenchman who comes out on top, and by quite some way at that.

For example, in just 41 appearances, totalling 2894 minutes, he’s scored 12 goals and provided 19 assists, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.32 games, or every 93.35 minutes.

In contrast, the Welshman has scored 16 goals and provided seven assists in 46 appearances, totalling 2987 minutes, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every other game, or every 129.86 minutes.

Unfortunately for the former Nottingham Forest ace, the comparison remains just as one-sided when we take a look under the hood at their underlying numbers.

For example, Lyon’s “future Ballon d’Or winner,” as dubbed by The Athletic’s Alex Barker, comes out ahead in almost all relevant metrics, such as actual and expected non-penalty goals plus assists, progressive passes and carries, key passes, shot and goal-creating actions, successful take-ons and more, all per 90.

Ultimately, while Johnson has been a useful player, it’s clear that Cherki would be a massive upgrade and, therefore, Spurs should do all they can to sign him this summer.
