Leroy Sane needs to stay at Manchester City for the good of his career

Reactionary new deal for Manchester City star Leroy Sane may be a reason for concern.

The German still has two years remaining on his current deal at the Etihad, but the club are reportedly interested in making sure his future remains with them by offering a new long-term contract.

The Metro claim that talks between the two parties have been ongoing since March and that the club feel like they had made good progress; enough to feel confident that the player will stay next season.

However, the Sky Blues are said to be a little concerned with the lack of urgency from Sane’s camp to progress talks. The fear being that Sane’s head has been turned by interest from elsewhere.

In his native land of Germany, Bayern Munich were said to be interested in the player when he left Schalke in 2016 and have always considered him a natural long-term replacement for ageing wingers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, the latter of whom is due to leave at the end of the season.

Sane has found himself on the bench more often than he probably wanted this season, with the exceptional Bernardo Silva preferred by Pep Guardiola. But with so much time left on his contract and so much potential to become a big Premier League star, we cannot help but think that a move away from Manchester City would be a step back for the German. He is currently learning under one of the greatest managers at all time and playing for one of the dominant teams in Europe, who are leading the way in terms of progressive modern football.

Who does he think he is? He’s got everything to win countless trophies so, if his head has been turned, it should infuriate fans. There’s simply nowhere better and he must bide his time.

On paper it is a no-brainer. He must stay.

Man City fans, what do you think of Sane? Think he’s getting above his station, if his head has indeed been turned? Join the discussion by commenting below…

Haven’t scored from a corner since! Celtic fans react to club’s Sutton tweet

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Celtic fans have been reacting to a club tweet about Chris Sutton, which appears to have highlighted a major flaw that has plagued the Bhoys for over a decade.

As the season draws to a close, the anniversaries of some of Celtic’s finest moments come thick and fast.

Wednesday marked 16 years since Henrik Larsson scored in a 1-1 draw against Boavista in the UEFA Cup semi-final – the Swede of course scored again in the second leg to take the Bhoys through to the final.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

And 24 hours later, the club tweeted out another iconic moment, reminiscing about Sutton’s thumping header in the 2005 Scottish Cup semi-final.

Sutton struck in the third minute against Hearts before Craig Bellamy bagged in the second half to win 2-1, and the Hoops beat Dundee in the final courtesy of Alan Thompson’s goal.

Fans have all noticed the same thing from the clip of Sutton though – they actually scored from a corner.

Set pieces are a huge source of goals for most sides but the Bhoys struggle to bag from them, and loads of fans have been sharing the same complaint.

Have a look at the Twitter reactions down below, where fans are convinced their set pieces have been useless for 14 years…

Wolves’ lack of plan B dictates that Nuno Santo must keep Adama Traore

[ad_pod ]

According to TEAMtalk, Wolves manager Nuno Santo has no long term plans for Adama Traore. However, he would be making a massive blunder if he was to let the Spaniard leave Molineux.

What’s the word?

It’s fair to say that Traore’s spell at Wolves has been a bit of a disaster. Signed for a club record fee at the time of £18m, he’s been one of the biggest flops this season.

The 23-year-old has scored just once and claimed a solitary assist this term, per WhoScored. It’s an incredibly disappointing return for a player who cost so much. Therefore, it’s arguably not a surprise to see TEAMtalk report that Santo has no long term plans for the player.

Given Wolves play with wing backs, he’s never really had a chance to show what he’s capable of in forward areas, and as such, could find himself leaving the club if there is no room for him in the side.

Transfermarkt rates the player at £16.2m so Wolves could conceivably lose profit on the former Barcelona man should they come to the decision that they want to sell him.

Nuno can’t afford to let Traore leave

There aren’t many reasons to be critical of Wolves this season but one major problem has been a lack of plan B.

The club have been excellent against top six sides, registering 16 points. However, versus smaller opponents they’ve struggled and that’s largely been down to a lack of adaptation.

But in Traore, Wolves have a player capable of giving them a different option. Off the bench he is a crucial player, possessing pace to scare even the best of defenders late in a game. He’s arguably very different to any other player in their ranks.

A Wolves fan shares his most gutting moment of the last 10 years supporting the club in the video below…

His numbers for goals and assists simply aren’t good enough, but if the club can find a way to play him further forward, rather than at wing-back then they may finally find someone capable of breaking down teams who aren’t so open.

Because of this, Santo has to keep him in his plans.

Profit Players: Eden Hazard

It hasn’t been a particularly good time for Chelsea fans this season, but their mood could be about to get even worse. That’s because all signs are pointing towards Eden Hazard leaving the club this summer. With his contract set to expire at the end of next season, the Blues may have their hands tied, and that represents a huge failing on the part of the club.

Sure, you could argue that if Hazard wants to go then the club can’t stand in his way, but the reality is that Chelsea have failed to convince him that Chelsea is the best place for him to be – and the responsibility for that can only fall on the shoulders of the club.

However, despite the obvious failing, there is some light at the end of the tunnel that Hazard looks set to speed through. That’s because, from a monetary point of view, Chelsea are still going to be the big winners in this deal.

According to Transfer Markt, he was signed for £31.5 million from Lille, and that’s a bargain for a player of his quality. It is said that the Blues could sell him for as much as £100 million, and so that would represent a significant profit on the part of the club. They’d be selling him for over three times the price that they paid for him, and that’s clearly a good thing for the club. Sure, they could have got more if he had a longer contract, but that would have been a record fee two or three years ago – and the fact that he’s 28-years-old means that he wouldn’t fetch as much as someone like Neymar when he went to PSG (£199.8 million, as per Transfer Markt).

It goes beyond that, too, though. It’s easy to forget that now, but it’s fair to say that Eden Hazard has already repaid his transfer fee and more to the Blues with his performances on the field. The Belgian has been the club’s main man since he joined from Lille in 2012, and he’s helped them to a number of trophies in that time. At the end of the day, he’s stayed well beyond his original contract when he probably had offers to move on elsewhere.

If you asked most Chelsea fans, they’d be sad that Hazard is leaving – but few would stop him from departing, based on what he’s offered the club. He’s given the Blues everything, and if Real Madrid is his dream, he’s within his right to achieve it. All Chelsea can do is thank him for his service – and count their £100 million-plus with a smile on their face.

Should Spurs splash £40m on Sessegnon?

Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with a move for Ryan Sessegnon, per the Daily Express.

The 18-year-old has been a rare bright spark in a roundly terrible season for Fulham, who have already been relegated to the Championship, with his asking price set at £40million.

The Express claims that a number of clubs, including Juventus and Liverpool, are also interested in securing Sessegnon’s signature this summer, with the teenager certain to depart the London outfit.

But should Spurs splash £40m on a teenager who has spent just one season in the top-flight?

Football FanCast writers give their verdicts below…

Matt Dawson

“If Spurs signed Ryan Sessegnon then they may well have another Gareth Bale on their hands. It’s hard to see him replicating the feats of the Welshman but there is a comparison in the fact he’s a player that can play at left back and further forward. £40m would be a ridiculous sum of money to pay for him, even in today’s market and after the season he’s had it’s difficult to justify that fee. However, if he starts finding goals in the top-flight, as he did in the Championship, he’d be some player for Tottenham. Given how Pochettino has developed young English talent in the past, he may be the manager to get the best out of him.”

James Beavis

“No, they should steer clear. While Sessegnon may well be a star in the future, Tottenham are in a position now where they need players that are guaranteed to perform if they want to compete in the Premier League and Champions League. Given his form for Fulham this season that isn’t the case with Sessegnon. Signing him has Tottenham written all over it, but he would be a massive risk and Spurs need to change their policy this summer for the best of the club.”

Billy Meyers

“No, they definitely shouldn’t sign him for that much money. Whilst he has done fairly well at times this season for such a young player, Spurs have areas of the field which demand more attention than the position Sessegnon plays – the fact that they had to reshuffle the side completely against Manchester City when Moussa Sissoko went off injured tells you that midfield is just the start of where they need reinforcements. He would be somewhat of a luxury signing, and one that they should certainly steer clear of.”

Sheffield United: Wilder must avoid signing Hogan on a permanent deal in the summer

It has been an incredible year to be a Sheffield United supporter, hasn’t it Blades fans?

After missing out on the play-offs at the end of the 2017/18 campaign, Chris Wilder’s decision to bolster his squad by bringing in the likes of David McGoldrick, John Egan and Oliver Norwood paid off massively as the Yorkshire-based outfit exceeded all expectations this season.

Following a gargantuan battle with Leeds United for second-place in the Championship, the Blades eventually came out on top as they secured automatic promotion following their rivals’ 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on April 28th.

With a long summer ahead of them before they play their first Premier League fixture since 2007 in August, Wilder will know that in order to be competitive in the top-flight, he must be willing to splash the clash when the right player becomes available in the summer.

However, the 58-year-old can ill-afford to be hasty during the transfer window as it could have a disastrous impact on United’s hopes of securing survival next season. Therefore, it is clear that Wilder must resist the temptation to sign Scott Hogan on a permanent deal from Aston Villa.

According to reports in the Daily Mail, the Blades could be considering a move for the forward as they look to provide sufficient back up for McGoldrick and Billy Sharp.

Although Hogan is undeniably talented, when you consider the fact that he has only managed to score two goals for the club since joining on loan in January, it would obviously be a mistake to bring him in as he may struggle to make the step up in level required to compete.

Instead of wasting their money on the £4.5m-rated ace (via Transfermarkt), the Blades should instead look towards bringing in a forward who has a track-record of producing in the top-flight of English football as it could prove to be the all-important difference in their quest to avoid relegation next season.

What do you think Blades fans? Should Wilder sign Hogan on a permanent deal in the summer? Or would it be wiser for the 51-year-old to target Premier League-proven forwards? Let us know below.

Man United fans call for Declan Rice after impressive display

[ad_pod ]

Declan Rice has emerged as West Ham United’s most coveted talent this season and his excellent display against Manchester United underlined his credentials to compete with the very best.

The Hammers may have lost the game but they were incredibly unfortunate to be on the wrong end of the result, something which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was happy to admit in his post-match interviews.

Rice, valued at £31.5 million by Transfermarkt, put in a dominant display to help combat the threat offered by United’s flair players but this was typical of a player who is rapidly becoming one of the hottest talents on the continent.

With his performance fresh in mind, plenty of the Red Devils faithful turned out in their numbers on Twitter to ask for one thing.

That was, of course, for United to sign the England international in the summer.

Indeed, the fans were completely blown away by his all-action performance, which saw him make four tackles, one interception and one clearance, per Whoscored.

But every passing fixture seems to send Rice’s stock soaring that little bit more and that could prove problematic for United if they decide to table a bid this summer.

Here’s what the fans had to say about his performance…

Paul Merson: St James’ Park will help "poor" Newcastle over the line against Palace

Sky Sports’ Paul Merson may often find himself the butt of fans’ jokes, but he speaks from the hip, and often the things he says resonate with fans, even if he does have his own unique style of punditry.

After talking up (as per Sky Sports) Crystal Palace’s chances in their last game — the first game for Spurs in their new stadium — claiming Roy Hodgson’s side are “one of the best counter-attacking sides about” when they are on their game, he decried their performance, when looking forward to the St James’ Park clash against Newcastle.

“I am disappointed with Palace. Out of all the teams at the bottom they are the disappointment because they should not be where they are.

“How do you go to Manchester City and win 3-2, when nobody beats City at home, and then be where you are in the league and go to Tottenham and get rinsed in midweek? It wasn’t even really a game.”

It is easy to understand why he is so disappointed. With the fast, skillful players they have in their squad, they seem perfectly suited to hit teams on the break and capitalise away from home.

In Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsed, they have players who can be devastating in any game, and punish sides who make any mistakes.

That they have found themselves scrapping it out in the Premier League nether regions again is puzzling, to say the least.

He was equally scathing about Newcastle’s performance on Monday Night Football at Arsenal, and suggested with the incredible backing they had in the Capital from their fans, they should have given it more of a go, in an attacking sense, than they did.

He said of Rafa Benitez’s side: “Newcastle had a load of fans come down to Arsenal on Monday and you were thinking ‘why don’t you have a go?’. I thought it was poor. They are better than that and have the ammunition to hurt teams.”

While he makes a valid point, Newcastle fans travel to away grounds — especially those of the top clubs — with an expectation of they formation and tactics Rafa will employ.

It has seen the minimise damage in most of these types of games, and his hope is always that they will stay in a game long enough that they can snatch a point in the final quarter of the match — and they were definitely in the game until the second goal went in at the Emirates.

But in a tight game to call, on paper, Merse thinks that home advantage will be what sways it tomorrow, but is not worried that either side are in danger of getting relegated.

“I think Newcastle win with home advantage, but both these teams should be safe because Cardiff won’t get enough points.”

He plumps for a 2-1 win for Rafa’s team, and you could not have argued, had he gone for the same result for the opposition, such has been the unpredictable, topsy-turvy season for both sides.

What are Your thoughts ahead of the game, Newcastle and Palace fans? Has Merse got this one right? Let us know below…
