Spurs fans disgusted by club’s Vertonghen decision

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans have slammed the club for letting Jan Vertonghen try to play on after sustaining a head injury in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Ajax.

The Belgium defender was involved in a clash of heads with team-mate Toby Alderweireld in the first half.

He was tended to by Spurs’ medical team, with blood pouring from his wound, which appeared to be just below his eye.

Mauricio Pochettino and his medical team refused to substitute the 32-year-old, however, and he was allowed to return to the field of play.

Despite that, he asked to be substituted just a couple of minutes later, with Vertonghen clearly dazed from the clash with his compatriot.

Spurs lost 1-0, with Donny van de Beek scoring the only goal of the game.

And supporters took to Twitter to express their disgust at the club’s concussion protocol.

Indeed, many believe that he should have been substituted immediately, particularly with his face left a crimson mask.

Take a look at the best of the reaction below!

This is what West Ham fans are saying about Sheffield United’s promotion on KUMB

[ad_pod ]

Sheffield United’s promotion back to the Premier League was confirmed on Sunday following Leeds United’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa at Elland Road.

The Blades have been out of the top flight for 12 years following their relegation in 2007, but they have now sealed their return to the ‘best league in the world’.

One of the fixtures they will be looking forward to the most is against West Ham United, with the two clubs still holding something of a rivalry following the Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano saga from that season they went down, when the east London outfit ended up paying the Yorkshire club £20m in compensation.

Irons fans on the Knees Up Mother Brown forum have been having their say on another United’s success.

What have they been saying? Any surprise comments?

There are certainly some interesting ones.

It seems there are fans that are hoping that fate allows them to relegate Sheffield United next term, while others seem confident that Chris Wilder’s men will be going straight back down to the Championship because of a lack of quality – a bit of motivation for the first game of the 2019/20 season perhaps.

The comments aren’t all negative though, with one individual saying they would prefer to see the Bramall Lane outfit in the Premier League instead of the likes of Fulham and Huddersfield Town.

It certainly appears as though there is still some underlying tension following the 2007 events, and the two fixtures between these clubs during the next campaign could be more than tasty.

Transfer focus: O’Connor’s potential move to Bradford should inspire hope in fans

[ad_pod ]

Bradford City manager Gary Bowyer hasn’t been coy on his desire to bring Paudie O’Connor back to Valley Parade next season after his current loan spell comes to an end.

O’Connor has been a key player under Bowyer making 16 League One appearances since joining the club in January.

Preparing for League Two

O’Connor has proven to be a solid centre-back at League One level during his half a season at Bradford so he should thrive if he drops down a division next season.

Bowyer has worked with O’Connor previously at Blackpool and has been clearly impressed as he looks to continue working with him next season.

The Bantams will be hoping for nothing less than promotion at the first time of asking after their shock relegation from the third tier, and O’Connor would be a great player to keep hold of.

A new era

Bradford like many teams have been the victims of poor ownership and this move may signal that the club are moving into a new era where the manager is the boss once again.

This signing is clearly one that Bowyer has pushed for rather than any of the club’s hierarchy, the two had worked together previously at Blackpool and it is no secret that Bowyer is a fan.

The Yorkshire club had previously been run by Edin Rahic, the German owner was too involved in day-to-day proceedings at the club going as far as picking the team himself and sanctioning signings on his own.

That era seems to be over and Bowyer seems to be the first manager since Stuart McCall to have control of his own destiny at Valley Parade without involvement from those above him.

Watch the best fails from the world of indoor football in the video below…

Although O’Connor may not be the most fashionable signing in the world the interest should fill Bradford fans with hope as the manager is finally calling the shots at the club after a poor few years being run by Rahic.

Spurs target could retire according to shock pundit claim

[ad_pod ]

Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale has been tipped to quit football by talkSPORT pundit Alan Brazil, via This is Futbol.

What’s the word?

Bale has been heavily linked with a move away from Santiago Bernabeu this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur touted as potential suitors.

The Wales international left Spurs in 2013, of course, becoming the world’s most expensive player when he completed an £85million switch to the European giants.

Reports claim that Bale could even leave on a free transfer this summer, such is Real’s desire to shift him from their wage bill, but Brazil has claimed that the forward could potentially give the sport up completely.

He said: “I’m told he just wants to call it a day. He’s got enough money, he can just retire and play golf.”

Not really a surprise

It is only a surprise that more players do not take this path.

Bale earns a total of £350,000-per-week at Real, which equates to £18.4million-per-year.

He signed his deal in 2016 so, in just three years, he will have racked up earnings of £55.2m. That’s before endorsements and the like are factored in, too.

The winger is understood to be fanatical about golf and, hey, if he desires a career change, he certainly has the money to make it happen.

Spurs are unlikely to be able to afford him and, if he doesn’t fancy any of the other options, perhaps “calling it a day” wouldn’t be the worst course of action for a player who has already won all there is to win in the club game.

No thanks! Liverpool fans don’t want to see Wilfried Zaha sign for the club

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to reveal that they don’t want to see Wilfried Zaha arrive at the club this summer, after the Crystal Palace winger asked to leave in search of Champions League football.

Zaha has reportedly told the Eagles that he wants out, although the south London side will not accept a reduced fee for their talisman given the fact he signed a new five-year deal just last summer.

Luis Suarez certainly had no qualms about celebrating against his former employers in the video below…

Palace believe they could obtain up to £80m for the 26-year-old in the current market, which would put him amongst the world’s most expensive players.

The Ivory Coast international scored 10 goals and recorded 10 assists in the league last term, which is very impressive for a bottom-half side.

Liverpool could do with some added depth on the wings behind Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, but to splash out such a sum on a player who would only act as backup would be a very foolish move.

Judging by their reactions on Twitter, a number of Reds supporters agree with that sentiment, especially for the reported asking price…

Arsenal fans show their outrage after frustrating interview

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal fans finally have something to hope for as the team approaches their big Europa League final clash against their blue neighbours, Chelsea.

Their managing director, Vinai Venkatesham, and head of football Raul Sanllehi sat down in an interview with Laura Woods and discussed the match in Baku that’s right around the corner.

It’s safe to say that after reading the interview, Gunners fans weren’t convinced by the discussions of the owners’ ambitions, while others simply didn’t seem to believe a word either Sanllehi or Venkatesham were saying. They were pretty loud in expressing their emotions on social media:

The big people leading the club should be much more ambitious than they’ve led the fans to believe they are and outrage from supporters pretty much flooded the comments section on Arsenal’s official Twitter page.

Many were in doubt of the direction the owners are taking the team in but now, their minds seem to be set – they clearly want a big change in the upper hierarchy for club to make any real progress moving forward.

A selection of tweets demonstrates their anger and disappointment at the interview and the general feeling towards Arsenal’s power-brokers…

The Chalkboard: Leeds’ scouting department deserve credit as Dan James linked to Man Utd

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United’s transfer recruitment team have come under a lot of criticism in recent years. Namely, Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta have been in the crosshairs of Whites fans when they want to express their anger at the club.

One area of the club’s recruitment which can’t be faulted though is the scouting team.

An eye for talent

The scouts at Elland Road have done a fantastic job of picking out talent in recent years. The arrivals of the likes of Pontus Jansson, Pablo Hernandez and Mateusz Klich all have to be commended.

But a player who they didn’t end up bringing in has to be given the label of their greatest find to date.

Daniel James had all but signed on the dotted line at Thorp Arch on deadline day in January, only for the deal to collapse at the last minute.

Any frustrations directed at Orta and Radrizzani would be justified as James may have been the player to get Leeds into the top two this season.

The winger is now being linked to the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool, and the hierarchy at the club must be kicking themselves for allowing him to slip through their fingers.

More of the same

Although the deal for the Swansea winger didn’t come off, the scouting team have to be given credit for identifying a target who would go on to be targeted by some of the biggest clubs in the world.

If Leeds are to establish themselves as a force in English football once again, they need to continue with this policy of unearthing gems before they hit the big time.

The Yorkshire club have recently been linked with Forest Green Rovers midfielder Reece Brown, who seems to have all the capabilities to one day become a top player.

Marcelo Bielsa’s club may deserve a lot of the criticism headed their way when it comes to transfers, and missing out on James may prove to be a colossal blunder.

You can’t fault the men in charge of identifying potential targets, and perhaps this could be the wake-up call the higher-ups need to close out deals effectively in the future.

Arsenal: Signing Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech would prove Gunners’ title credientials

There’s nothing better than beating one of your rivals to a signing. With that in mind, if Arsenal can bat off the competition to capture Hakim Ziyech it’d send a huge statement to the rest of the top six.

The 26-year-old right winger is another rising star Ajax have thrown into the limelight this season and the Mirror claimed in late April that the Gunners, Man City, Man United and Liverpool are all interested in signing him up. Indeed, Arsenal should put all their weight behind this guy and forget Dennis Praet.

Unai Emery’s side are also believed to be after Praet according to the Daily Star, but he’s miles behind Ziyech considering he’s still playing for Sampdoria rather than one of Europe’s top clubs. He may be younger, but Arsenal need success now.

Ziyech has shone in the Eredivisie this season, scoring 16 goals and making 15 assists. He’s even scored two and assisted three this Champions League campaign, so he can certainly perform in more competitive matches too. What’s there not to like about that?

He’d be a huge upgrade on their attacking players already, and that includes outgoing Aaron Ramsey. If they sign him he’ll make Arsenal’s attack unbearable to defend against because they’ve got such depth up there. It’ll have a phycological impact on their rivals too.

If Arsenal can beat their main rivals to his signature, it shows they’re ready to battle for the title with the likes of Liverpool and City. They have some way to go, but if they can pull this off, they can make it all the way.
